What have we done so far?

SISOS (Staten Island Supports our Soldiers) was started in May 2004. We are a group formed to support our active military and their families.

We hold informal monthly meetings where family and frieds of our troops can come together to discuss issues that are important to them. We occassionally have guest speakers. The meetings are informal and open to everyone.

We have many resources at our disposal and are available 24/7 for any family member who needs assistance. In the last year we were able to:

  • fly soldiers home to see their families when they couldn't afford the fare themselves.
  • We also sent a complete layette to an expectant Staten Island mother, now living in Germany, while her husband was fighting in Iraq.
  • We have sent 200 sheets and blankets to our military in Afghanistan
  • dog beds and supplies to our canine unit in Iraq
  • We were able to supply toys for a family who would not have otherwise been able to enjoy a merry Christmas.
  • Upon return from Iraq, we have secued positions for 4 solders in a union based company.
  • We are in the process of placing a mother with children into a new home here on Staten Island.
  • We have educated our soldiers on how to collect unemployment benefits within a week to ten days after being released, in order to help get them started.
  • Our support goes in so many different directions that it is difficult to list them all.

How can I help?

We are a not-for-profit support group and resource center and as such rely entirely on donations and fund raisers. Any and all money recieved goes directly to the troops and their families.

All donations are tax deductible.
